What Writers Need To Know

1. Our goal is to provide articles of interest to families of children with special needs. We would like to share information and experiences with others while remaining respectful of differing family values. We are especially interested in articles that inspire, empower and uplift parents. We have the opportunity through our editorial to help parents connect, care for their children and overcome obstacles.

2. Articles for Dandelion must be non-sexist, non-racist and respectful of others.

3. We try to balance articles so that a variety of disabilities and needs are addressed.

4. Articles should be informative and readable, without being technical.

5. Article length should be approximately 300-500 words long for a short article, and 700-1000 words long for a feature article.

6. Story ideas, outlines or excerpts from articles may be submitted, as well as photos that may accompany a manuscript. Our goal is to schedule editorial at least three months ahead of time. If you are submitting a piece on speculation, we should receive time-dated pieces four months prior to their proposed date of publication.

7. Once an article has been accepted for publication, we would like an e-mailed copy. (Microsoft Word format is preferred.)

8. The Editor has the right to edit copy and make final decisions on page layout. We are not able to provide the writer a final draft before printing.
